Lake Junaluska, NC – Nothing celebrates our country’s Independence Day like big, beautiful fireworks and a small-town parade full of floats, flags and unwavering patriotism. And in Western North Carolina, no one does it better than Lake Junaluska.
Join the fun at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 4, as this year’s parade, “Lake Junaluska Through the Decades,” also celebrates the Lake’s centennial with reunions, a barbecue picnic, family activities, music, and floats representing each decade of the Lake’s 100 years.
A long-time tradition for generations of families in Western North Carolina and beyond, the Lake Junaluska Fourth of July Parade winds its way along beautiful Lakeshore Drive, while children, pets, parents and grandparents, adorned in red, white and blue, follow the procession to the Nanci Weldon Outdoor Gym for a barbecue picnic from noon to 2 p.m. The picnic will also feature bluegrass music by Eddie Rose and the Highway 40 Band, face painters, inflatable houses and balloon artists.
After lunch, spend the day swimming in the pool, fishing, putt putt golfing, touring the lake on a cruise boat, or canoeing, kayaking or paddle boating from one end of the 200-acre lake to the other. Follow that with a relaxing evening of patriotic music by the Lake Junaluska Singers at 7:30 p.m. in historic Stuart Auditorium. And to cap it all off, the grand finale fireworks display over the lake itself at about 9:45 p.m. Now that’s a way to celebrate the Fourth of July.
Tickets for the barbecue picnic are $8 for adults and youth 12 and older, $5 for children 6 to 11, and free for children under 5, and may be purchased at the Lake Junaluska Bethea Welcome Center. Tickets to the Junaluska Singers concert are $20 for reserved seating, all ages; $17.50 for general admission seating; and free for youth 18 and under in general admission seating only.
