Lake Junaluska opens new bookstore and cafe

Lake Junaluska, NC – Walk into the former Cokesbury Bookstore at Lake Junaluska and revel in its transformation. The new Lake Junaluska Bookstore and Cafe is an ultimate gathering place for guests and visitors to seek respite, offering coffee, books, gifts, and more.

Lake Junaluska will celebrate the Bookstore and Cafe’s grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5. Refreshments will be provided.

“We offer a full slate of organic and fair trade coffees, fresh lemonade, tea, pastries, books, gifts, and more,” said Craig Bishop, director of retail sales at Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center.  “We will also host book signings by local and international authors. Two are already on the calendar. “

The gift shop features “products with a purpose,” such as scarves and swing purses made in India, with part of the profits supporting dental care in India, and cards made from recycled paper by Filipino girls and Rwandans, who receive a portion of the profits to support themselves.

“We offer fair trade items, as well as local products made by local artists,” Bishop said. Locally made items include pottery, carved wooden items, and jewelry. The bookstore will continue to provide Christian books.

“I think the atmosphere, with the uniqueness of the coffee bar and gift shop, is a good balance and combination,” said Bishop, who previously managed the Coffee Zone. “We’re not totally dependent on books. We are here for the community and our conference guests, as well.”

The Lake Junaluska Bookstore and Cafe is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m., and on Sundays from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visit for announcements about upcoming special events and sales.
