Ms. Leymah Gbowee, 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner and Liberian peace activist, will headline the 2012 Lake Junaluska Peace Conference, "Love in Action: The Transformative Power of Nonviolence" November 8-11, 2012. The conference will draw upon the lessons of nonviolent campaigns and their leaders to help participants explore how acts of nonviolence can change the world.
“We are pleased that Ms. Gbowee will join us for the 2012 Peace Conference,” said Frank Stith, Chair of the Peace Conference planning committee. “The conference has a diverse lineup of dynamic speakers, workshops, worship, a special event evening, and a panel of persons talking about what different faiths teach about nonviolence.”
2012 leadership also includes Rev. Dr. Bernard LaFayette, Jr., Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence at Candler School of Theology; Dr. Michael Nagler, President of the Metta Center for Nonviolence; and Rev. Alan Storey of Central Methodist Mission in Cape Town, Africa.
Participants will explore the principles and learn the applications of nonviolence as taught by Gandhi, King, and many spiritual leaders who offered this alternative paradigm for resolving conflict, achieving justice, and building peace.
Scholarships are available for full time college and seminary students. Early registration for the Peace Conference ends September 1st. For more information and to register, visit www.lakejunaluska.com/peace.
