GOLF: For the month of December, the public may enjoy a round of 18 holes of golf, with a golf cart and lunch at Eagle’s Nest Grill, for $49. (The regular winter rate – Dec. 1 to April 1 – is $57 without lunch.) Lunch is served at Eagle’s Nest Grill Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. Golfers taking advantage of the special holiday rate on Sunday or Monday will receive a lunch voucher to return during restaurant hours. (Sunday Brunch is excluded.) The Piedmont Room is open Tuesday and Friday, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. A buffet is served on Tuesday night; Friday evening dining is by menu. All vouchers and passes must be used by Dec. 31. Tee times are limited. For more information, or to set up a tee time, call the pro shop at (828) 452-0545, option 1.

DINING: The Laurel Ridge clubhouse will be open to the public every Sunday in December for Brunch, serving from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. Every week, the buffet will include an omelet station, where Chef Al will be whipping up creations to customer specifications. Fried chicken will also be a centerpiece entree; a mix of hometown favorites, including an array of desserts, will vary weekly. Cost is $17.95 plus tax and gratuity. Call for reservations at (828) 452-0545, ext. 140.

On Sunday, Dec. 2, Santa and Mrs. Claus will join the festivities. After mingling with folks, he’ll hop in his life-size sleigh for photo opportunities. Ansley Chappell of Capturing WNC Photography, who took the cover photo for Laurel Ridge, will be available to take family photographs at an affordable cost.

Live music will be provided through the Sunday Brunch season, ranging from children’s choirs to hand bell concerts. Visit and click through to the Laurel Ridge Country Club facebook page for details.

NEW YEAR’S EVE: Laurel Ridge is open to the public for a special celebration of New Year’s Eve! Orange Krush, a dance band that has won rave reviews, will headline the evening’s entertainment. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served buffet-style. Dress is holiday casual. Two toasts will bring in the New Year; one at 10 pm for those who need to call it an early night, and the traditional official toast at midnight. Call for reservations at (828) 452-0545, ext. 135. This event is expected to book up fast!
