Learn beekeeping Feb. 23, March 2
An “Introductory Beekeeping class” will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 23 and March 2, at the Haywood County Extension Building, 589 Raccoon Road, in Waynesville.
The class will cover equipment choices, how to pick beehive locations, and getting honeybees. It will discuss how to prepare bees for Western North Carolina honey flows, removing and bottling honey for sale and the area sourwood honey.
The class will identify most common honeybee diseases and pests and how to deal with them. There will be a live inspection of an active beehive on a Saturday in the spring.
Cost for this class is $35, couples $45, and students under 18 are free, which includes $10 for a membership with the Haywood Beekeeper’s Association. There will be morning and afternoon breaks with refreshments, ...
