Leslie Lee Holbert Sr.
MONROE, GEORGIA — Leslie Lee Holbert Sr., 65, of Monroe, Georgia, passed away Monday, June 16, 2014. He was surrounded by family and loved ones.
Les, born Nov. 13, 1948 in Calhoun, Georgia, was the son of Ernestine Holbert and the late Floyd Holbert. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a veteran, a business owner, and a Free Mason. Les was some of these to a few, but to everyone he met he became "friend."
Although he was born in Calhoun, he moved from base to base as part of a career Air Force family. As a young man, he too joined the Air Force and served his country for four years. After his service and finishing college, he settled with his family in Florida, then North Carolina, and was a business and social fixture in both communities. He was a mentor to a generation of Tuscola Mountaineers, in part, because he was always a kid at heart. His strength, playful spirit, and quick wit will be missed.
He is survived by his mother, Ernestine Holbert; his sister and brother-in-law, Georgian and Tom Pruett; his brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Jackie Holbert; sons and daughters-in-law, Les and Wendy Holbert and Bill and Melina Holbert; a daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Ianny Dikos; grandchildren, Savanna, Amelia Grace, Lana, Luke, Blake and Danielle; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Elise and Delilah; a special friend of many years, Marie Trantham; numerous nephews and nieces; and we cannot forget his faithful four-legged companion, Daisy.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Haven of Rest Memorial Park, located at 3736 Red Bud Road NE, Calhoun, GA, where he will be laid to rest next to his father. Military honors will be provided by the U.S Air Force.
After the service there will be a celebration of life ceremony at 3 p.m. at 2777 Highway 136 Resaca, GA. Please bring a covered dish and drinks, attire will be casual dress.
