Let’s Talk About It continues from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 at the Waynesville branch of the Haywood Public Library with Wolf Whistle by Lewis Nordan. Refreshments will be served.
In 1956, Emmett Till was murdered for wolf whistling at a white woman. The two white men responsible for the killing were tried and acquitted in a Mississippi town near the author’s boyhood home. These events changed the author forever. In this extraordinary novel, Nordan transforms one of America’s most notorious racial crimes into a magical mystery where actual truth and fiction are difficult to separate. Nordan won the Southern Book Critics Award for this novel.
Dr. Merritt Mosely of UNC-Asheville will lead the discussion. Mosley, at UNCA since 1978, has special interest in English and American literature and the art of the novel.
The books are available free of charge at the Waynesville branch of the Haywood Public Library. See Teresa Glance to check out a book.
