Looming medical payment cuts will take a toll

To the editor:

I wanted to highlight something said in a recent hospital noting part of the financial difficulties at MedWest can be traced to shrinking Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements [and] delayed elective surgeries such as hip or knee replacements.

Shrinking Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements is a big problem for all health care providers who accept patients with these insurance products.

Medicare has changed the payment situation drastically without “cuts” already by combining or “bundling” payments and lowering reimbursements for specific procedures.

This is not the “cut” you have heard about in articles which are generally titled something like “Medicare proposes a 30 percent cut in doctor’s pay.”
