Lewis propels Pisgah into 2-A sectionals
CANTON — The last time the Pisgah girls basketball team met East Rutherford was in the second round of the 2008 state playoffs.
The Cavaliers knocked out the Black Bears in the second round match up, 51-47.
But thanks to junior forward Mariah Lewis’ career-bests 25 points and 16 rebounds, Pisgah did the knocking out, eliminating No. 8 seed East Rutherford, 72-63, in the second round game of the NCHSAA Class 2-A West Tournament.
“Honestly, it’s unbelievable,” said Lewis. “I knew tonight was going to be a really difficult game because this is the toughest team since Franklin that we have faced. And we knew East Rutherford would be the best athletic team that we have faced. I just got it in my head to go out and play hard. I am really excited about making it to the sectionals.
