Loving Mother, Grandmother
WAYNESVILLE — Mrs. Lois Jean Buckner Carden, 83, of Waynesville, passed away on June 8, 2014, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. She was born in Buncombe County to the late William Robert and Atlas Brigman Buckner.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce D. Carden; brothers, Stanley and Burnis Buckner; and sisters, Alma Sexton and Lucille Keys.
Lois graduated from Berea College and retired from Haywood County Schools as a teacher and librarian. She was a lifelong learner and educator and enjoyed reading in addition to spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son, Mark Carden (Nancy), of Waynesville; daughter, Renee Jones (Paul), of Louisville, Kentucky; granddaughters, Jennifer Basinger and Stephanie Patterson; great-granddaughters, Jane-Claire and Emma Basinger.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at the First Baptist Waynesville where she was a member. The Rev. Dr. Robert Prince will officiate and interment will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from noon to 2 p.m.
