To celebrate Valentine’s Day,  Haywood Spay/Neuter has received a grant to offer free dog spay/neuter surgeries for the first 20 that sign up for February transport to Humane Alliance. In addition to the spay/neuter surgery, each dog will receive a rabies and distemper vaccine, heartworm test, nail trim and wormer. Applications for this grant will start Jan. 24 and end when the 20th person signs up.

"Because the grant requires the dog to receive a heartworm test, dogs must be over 6 months of age and in need of a rabies and parvo vaccine," said Kessa Thomas, program administrator. "Although we serve all income levels, we are limiting this special to those clients with household incomes under the 300 percent federal poverty guidelines. For those with proof of government assistance, we have an ongoing program to help them."

To sign up for this limited-time offer, visit Haywood Spay/Neuter at 182 Richland St. Office hours are noon to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. Please bring I.D. and proof of income which is required to qualify for the N.C. State Spay/Neuter Refund program.
