Luther 'Tobe' Ewart
CLYDE — Luther “Tobe” Ewart, 84, of Clyde, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Feb. 14, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Jim and Tennie Locust Ewart.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Ewart; a son, Donald Ewart; and his granddaughter, Melanie Ann Nelson. Luther worked for Southern Concrete/Ready Mix for 35 years until he retired. When he was 17 years old he served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of James Chapel Baptist Church where he served his Lord as a Sunday school teacher and deacon for many years. He enjoyed reading his Bible and playing golf with his friends. He will truly be missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Ewart; a son, Ken Ewart, and his wife, Loretta, of Clyde; daughters, Nancy Ann Nelson, and her husband, Eddie, of Waynesville, Susie Ewart-Dacey, and her husband, Richard, of Simpsonville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Sherry, Donna, Angela, Amanda, Andrea, Misty and David; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, in the Chapel of Garrett Funeral home. The Revs. Mike Nations and Steve Frazier will officiate and interment will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, and at other times, will be at the home of Nancy and Eddie Nelson, 639 Joe Carver Road, Waynesville.
