Mabel Browning Woodard

WAYNESVILLE — Mabel Browning Woodard, 90, of Waynesville, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 9, 2014. She was born Jan. 5, 1924, to the late Edgar David and Mary Belle Buchanan Browning. For many years, Mabel worked as a self-employed seamstress and bookkeeper. She was a devoted mother, “Mom-Mom,” and wife. She also attended Maple Grove United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, W.A. Woodard; daughter, Alice Marie Clement; siblings, Lyda Browning Woodard, Denton Browning, Leo Browning, Melita Browning Underwood, Ruth Browning and Buddy Browning.
Survivors include daughter, Eileen Leatherwood and her husband, Terry; son, Buck Woodard; son-in-law, David Clement and wife, Carol; daughter-in-law, Dori Woodard; granddaughters, Madison and Teal Woodard; sister, Fannie Browning Burnette and her husband, Blanton; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Maple Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kitty Crain officiating. Following the services, the family will gather in the fellowship hall at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mabel and her daughter, Alice, to the Haywood County Schools Foundation, 1230 N Main St, Waynesville, NC 28786.
