Mabel M. Chambers
“1913 – 2013”
CANDLER – Mabel Gaines Murray Chambers, age 99, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
A native of Haywood County, but lived most of her life in Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Edward Carson and Althea Kathryn Rogers Murray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Chambers, who died in 1987; three daughters, Frances Henson, Ellene Metcalf and Kathryn Crawford; one grandson, Roger Henson; and a great-grandson, Brandon “Bubba” Henson. Mabel was a dear special lady to all who knew her. She will be remembered for her genuine spirit who treated everyone with love and kindness. She was the matriarch and stability of her family and her faith was her rock. Mabel was a member of Starnes Cove Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet Evans and her husband, Earl, of Pauline, South Carolina, and Reva Granati and her husband, David, of Indialantic, Florida; 10 grandchildren with one special grandson, Dr. Ronnie Metcalf; 19 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Joyce Harkins.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Charlie Sams officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
