Maggie Valley Alderman Mike Matthews was banned from Legend's Sports Grill after a heated verbal argument with another patron Saturday night.

According to a police report from the Maggie Valley Police Department, Matthews was arguing with another man in the dining room over comments that had been made about his family.

Matthews later explained that the comments "did not sit well" with him, so he responded to them.

"That was it," he said.

The argument was carried out to the parking lot after Legend's staff asked them to leave.

According to reports, Matthews said the man was a family friend and the fight did not get physical, although witnesses told police the men were threatening to fight.
