For all the meetings and hullabaloo about the Maggie Valley budget, the end result appears to be something that will serve the town well for the coming year.
Unlike other government budgets approved across the county where next to nothing was said at public hearings, Maggie Valley residents took a healthy interest in the process. Folks in this community understand that a budget crafted in the late spring and adopted by June 30 sets the framework of all that is to happen for the coming fiscal year.
When the budget recommended by town staff was first rolled out, it was almost a mirror image of the present year’s budget. A new group of leaders in the valley promised change, and part of that change included carefully scrutinizing how the town spends tax dollars.
