Jeremy Lee Trantham, 34, of Carver Loop, Maggie Valley, was arrested July 23 on warrants charging him with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
The charge came after Trantham was accused of beating a man outside the Canton VFW on Memorial Day, Det. Shawn Gaddis said.
The victim told police Trantham beat him with the wooden handle of an axe and that he suffered from a fractured arm and was treated for cuts on his head and face.
Trantham was jailed under $1,500 unsecured bond and is due in court Aug. 1.
