Maggie Valley nightclub closes
Almost exactly one year from opening, Stingray’s Nightclub in Maggie Valley closed its doors Tuesday.
The bar, which replaced the notoriously rowdy bar The Springhouse, underwent a transformation under owner Robert Leatherwood. But he says slow business was the main reason for shutting down.
“The economy has hurt us on alcohol sales and we’ve dropped from 300 to 400 people on Friday down to 100 people,” Leatherwood said. “Maggie just doesn’t have the people it used to have.”
Authorities from the N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement said the bar's alcohol permits were in good standing and the agency was not a reason for the closing.
Leatherwood filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy in May, but dismissed the case Tuesday and said he plans to deal with his debts with the many creditors, including Nathan ...
