Mahogany House features pet portrait artists
The Mahogany House Art Gallery and Studios featured artists for February are pet portrait artists, James Smythe and Janice Swanger.
Both are local artists who were part of the Main Street Artist Co-op. Smythe's works include pastels of local scenes and mountain and coastal landscapes. He is also an accomplished portrait painter and has painted portraits of several Western Carolina staff and faculty members. He has more recently been enjoying painting dogs, man's best friend.
Swanger is a well known local painter of pet portraits. She works in oil, pastel and colored pencils, frequently from photographs provided by the pet's owner. She was born and raised in Waynesville and graduated from Tuscola High School. She earned her Fine Arts degree From Western Carolina University.
Some of Smythe and Swanger's favorite pet portraits will be on display at the Mahogany House Art Gallery and Studios during the month of February.
