Man found safe after being stranded overnight
A Canton area man was found safe, but cold after spending a rainy, windy evening stranded in his truck off Max Patch Road.
Law enforcement authorities issued a silver alert for Charles Doering after he was reported missing at 6:25 p.m. Saturday.
Doering, 69, was found cold and wet, but otherwise unharmed about noon Sunday and was home with him family by 1 p.m.
According to a news release from the Haywood County Sheriff's Department, Doering was returning home from Tennessee when he took a wrong turn off exit 104 from N.C. 19/23/74. He did not have a mobile telephone. He was located off Max Patch Road where he had gone up a steep driveway in the upper end of Fines Creek and gotten his pickup truck stuck in the mud. He was found by a caretaker of the property.
