Man takes troopers on high speed chase
The following is a listing of arrests made by the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office from Sept. 23 through Sept. 30.
On Sept. 26, deputies from the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-year-old Samuel Baker Davenport of Timberhill Drive, Canton, for charges out of Gainesville, Georgia.
Davenport is accused of stealing jewelry from his girlfriend’s grandmother and pawning it.
When detectives attempted to pull Davenport over while driving his truck, he sped away at a high rate of speed, according to police reports.
Troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol eventually stopped Davenport at mile marker three on Interstate 40.
He was charged with fleeing to elude arrest in addition to his out-of-state charges.
He was jailed under $100,000 secured bond and is due in Haywood County ...
