ASHEVILLE — Marion Eddie Gray, 67, of Asheville, was born to Joseph Macfagen Gray and Clora Louise Forney Gray in Waynesville. On Tuesday, July 2, 2013, Marion went home to be with the Lord in the comfort of his home.
Marion spent his retirement years caring for his grandchildren and watching Westerns. Marion was a dedicated employee of Champion International, which later became Blue Ridge Paper for 27 years collectively. Marion was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Gray, of Waynesville.
Surviving Mr. Gray is his wife, Lillie Bell Simmons, of Asheville; two daughters, Ingrid Freeman and husband, Ryan Freeman, of Asheville, Winnie Hawkins and husband, Anthony Hawkins, of Asheville; three sisters, Edith Caldwell and husband, Alfred Caldwell, of Waynesville, Sarah Gray of Waynesville and Sandra Kemp and husband, Charles Kemp, of Asheville; two brothers, Joseph Gray Jr. and wife, Mary Gray, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Charles Gray and wife, Cathy Gray, of Clyde; four grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, July 8, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where Mr. Gray will lie in state from 1:30 p.m. to the service hour.
