ORMOND BEACH, FLORIDA — Mary Frances Underwood Schnaak, 83, of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away Nov. 30, 2013.
Mary was born Sept. 27, 1930, in Piggott, Arkansas, the daughter of Jimmy Underwood and Ethel (Cox) Underwood. She graduated from Piggott High School in 1948 and married Ernest H. Schnaak in June 1953. Together, they raised five boys. Her contributions towards the betterment of those family, friends and strangers who crossed her path will be remembered always.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, James Etheridge Underwood, Leon W. Underwood and Jimmy Gene Underwood.
She is survived by her husband Ernest H. Schnaak, sons Robert Neil Schnaak and wife Jean of Raleigh, Allen Wayne Schnaak and wife Linda of Lawrenceville, Georgia, James Bruce Schnaak and partner Eugene (Buz) Smith of Ormond Beach, Florida, Jeffrey Karl Schnaak and wife, Suzanne, of Ormond Beach, Florida, and Brian Frances Schnaak and wife Denice of Jackson, New Jersey; brothers Herschel Underwood of Chesterfield Township, Michigan; Gerald Underwood of Palm Bay, Florida; Charles Underwood of Piggott, Arkansas; and Larry Underwood of Derby, Kansas. She is also survived by her two sisters, Jan Lea Mann of Piggott, Arkansas; and Betty Cash of Panama City, Florida. Her 10 grandchildren include Adriane Lea Highfill, Captain David Nelson Schnaak, Jenny Lanier Schnaak, Lindsay Bennett Schnaak, Peter Karl Schnaak, Daniel Christian Schnaak, Roman Jefferson Schnaak, William Coleman Schnaak, Jake Matthew Schnaak, and Benjamin Axel Schnaak. She has two great grandchildren, Madelyn Robin Highfill and Lillyn Grace Highfill.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Ormond in the Pines and Vitas Hospice for the loving care that was provided during Mary’s final months with us.
An informal gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, Dec. 28, at the Highland Lake Inn in Flat Rock. We invite those that knew her to come for lunch and swap stories and remembrances of this dear lady.
