In God’s Care

CLYDE — On Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, a dear lady that loved her Lord and loved her family, Mary Lou Caldwell Clevenger, age 95, entered her heavenly home.

Mrs. Clevenger was born Sept. 1, 1921, in Haywood County and was the daughter of the late Roscoe Caldwell and the late Eliza Rich Caldwell. She was a lifelong resident of Haywood County, a wonderful homemaker and mother.

Mary’s strong faith was an important part of her life and she was a member of Maggie Valley Baptist Church. She was also a Prayer Warrior and Mary touched many lives with her kindness and her loving and caring heart. During her blessed life she always gave of herself to others, caring for someone who might need a helping hand or just sharing encouraging words with her friends and family.

As we remember our beloved Mary, we shall always know in our hearts that a mother’s dear heart, a grandmother’s steadfast love and a sister’s devoted faith were fashioned by the angels and sent from God above. We have been deeply blessed by Mary Lou Clevenger’s life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Clevenger, who passed away in 1993, a daughter, Elizabeth Hampton; a granddaughter, Mary Hampton; sons-in-law, Floyd Brooks and Gene Hampton; and five sisters and one brother.

Holding Mary’s precious memory in their hearts are her family — a daughter, Lil Brooks, of Clyde; a son, Grover Clevenger and his wife, Sue Clevenger, of Clyde; grandchildren, Grovina Henson, of Canton, Cathy Best and her husband, Ronnie Best, of Canton, Carroll Clevenger and his wife, Lisa Clevenger, of Clyde, and Rita Putnam and her husband, Dean Putnam, of Clyde; great-grandchildren, John McDowell Michael V, Hollie Davis, Josh Best, Brandon Clevenger and Justin Best; five great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017 in the chapel of Crawford/Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Justin Best, Rev. Jody Shuford and Rev. Elijah Fish will be officiating. Burial will follow at Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. At other times, the family will be at the home of Lil Brooks, 18 Lincoln Court, Clyde, NC.

Crawford/Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Clevenger family and words of comfort may be shared at www.crawfordray.com.
