Mast General Store and Patagonia help Friends of the Smokies

Sep 11, 2013

Thinking about refreshing some of your hiking gear?

Until Sept. 14, every item of Patagonia Footwear and Apparel purchased at Mast General Store in Waynesville and Knoxville will benefit Friends of the Smokies. This fundraising initiative courtesy of Patagonia will culminate with a Friends Day celebration at the Mast General Store locations in Waynesville and Knoxville with 10 percent of the stores’ sales on that date directed to the not-for-profit park partner.

“Mast has hosted the Friends’ Day celebration for four years now,” explains Holly Demuth, North Carolina Director of Friends of the Smokies. “The support from this one day event keeps growing, and we are honored to have Patagonia join as a fundraising partner for the weeks leading up to Friends’ Day.”

Mast recently sponsored the organizations 19th annual Friends Across the Mountains Telethon, and also continually extends shopping discounts to all official Friends of the Smokies membership cardholders. Representatives from Friends of the Smokies will be on hand Sept. 14 to share information about projects in progress which are preserving the character of the most visited national park in the United States.

Currently the Trails Forever crew is working on the Chimney Tops Trail through the support of the Trails Forever endowment; information about volunteering with the crew will be available at Friends’ Day.

“With Great Smoky Mountains National Park located in two states, it’s great to celebrate Friends’ Day in North Carolina and Tennessee. Twenty years ago this month, our organization was established to help the Smokies. We wouldn’t still be here without the support of businesses like Mast who recognize what an economic engine Great Smoky Mountains National Park is for its surrounding communities,“ said Demuth.
