CANTON  — Max Jones, 60, of Canton, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville.

A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Broadway and Helen Jones.  He served proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and was a member of Pinnacle View Baptist Church in Leicester.

Surviving is his wife of 15 years, Jennie Jones; daughter, Kelly West (Angelio), of Cherokee; brothers, Melvin Jones (B.J.), of Hendersonville, Michal Jones and Morris Jones (Diane), all of Leicester; stepchildren, Steven Black (Carol) of Lawrence, Georgia, Michael Black (Becky) of Monticello, Georgia, Danny Black of Covington, Georgia, Sherry Wallace (Wayne) of Social Circle, Georgia; and 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Friday at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery in Black Mountain with the Rev. Wayne Carson officiating.
