CLYDE — Charles Maxwell “Max” Mathews, 87, passed away on Saturday, Oct.15, 2016 at The Homestead.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late C.K. and Bertha Reed Mathews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lee Murr Mathews, who died in 1989; a daughter, Rebecca, and two sons, Charles Michael and Johnny Mathews. Max was a United States Army Veteran.
He is survived by two daughters, Debra Mathews Lance and husband, Randy, of Canton and Elizabeth Inman and husband, Ralph, of Clyde; two sons, Robert A. Mathews and Jason Mathews both of Clyde; a brother, Dean Mathews and his wife, Anna, of Canton; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
