ROCK HILL, S.C. — The South Atlantic Conference announced on Tuesday that Lenoir-Rhyne senior RJ McClure was its men’s basketball player of the week.
McClure, a former Pisgah standout, averaged 37 points and 4.5 rebounds, including a SAC-record 52 points on Wednesday in a double-overtime loss at Newberry.
McClure’s 52 points exceeded the previous conference record of 51 set by current Carson-Newman senior Ishmael Sanders in 2011. McClure shot 17-of-27 from the field in the performance, which included a school-record 12 three-pointers.
The senior followed the 52-point effort with 22 points on Saturday in a loss at Anderson. He now ranks fourth in the conference in scoring at 20.1 points per game.
It was McClure’s second player of the week honor this season.
