The public is invited to strap on their running shoes and participate in the annual Meadowbrook Elementary Cubs on the Run 5K Race and Health Fair March 23.

The annual 5K race, now in its third year, was designed to help bring light to the growing problem of childhood obesity and to encourage a love of running for children and adults.

The health fair is presented to help increase awareness of all forms of health care and healthy living opportunities that are available locally.

The organizers for the event are currently seeking healthy, family friendly vendors to set up booths for the health fair.

There is no fee for vendors and the audience will consist of more than 200 runners and their families. Vendors will be provided with a table and two chairs that can be set up as early as 7 a.m. in the Meadowbrook Elementary School gym.

The health fair portion of the event will end at 11:30 a.m., when the race comes to an end.

Race sponsorships are also available.

Registrations for the race are available at Meadowbrook Elementary School, Champion Credit Union in Canton and at Home Computer Services, 87 Main St., in Canton.

The 5K course is moderately hilly and runs from the school onto Kims Cove Road, Highway 110 onto Meadowbrook Drive and loops back to the school. There will be water stations along the course.

The Fun Run will take place at 8:30 a.m,. followed by the 5K at 9 a.m. Pre-race packets can be picked up from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, March 22 at the school. Race day packet pick up and same day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23. The awards ceremony will take place immediately following the 5K.
