MedWest to host indoor triathalon

Jan 13, 2014

The MedWest Haywood Health & Fitness Center will be hosting an indoor triathlon, to be conducted in a three-race series with races beginning at 8 a.m. on Jan. 25, Feb. 15, and March 15. Participants may enter one or all three races.

Each race will consist of a 10-minute swim in the indoor lap pool, followed by a 30-minute bike on the spin bicycles, and finished with a 20-minute run on the indoor 1/10th mile track. Event officials will be recording the total distance covered during each segment, and racers will be given a score based on each segment. Total accumulated points will determine each racer’s place. Awards will be given after the third heat on March 15 based on cumulative points from all three races.

Pre-registration is $15 per person, per race for MedWest Haywood Health and Fitness center members and $20 for non-members. Registration for the entire, three-race series is $40 per person for Health & Fitness Center members and $55 per person for nonmembers.

“The indoor triathlon is a great way to keep people active in the winter,” said Scot Worley Triathlon Director, and Fitness Program Coordinator at the Health & Fitness Center. “We hope to make this an annual event.”
