Two men were arrested over the weekend after breaking into a Maggie Valley motel and holding a guest at knifepoint.

Matthew Arthur Bauer and Colten Lee Smith are accused of breaking into Scottish Inn around 11:45 p.m. Saturday. The victim told police that one of the men struck him over the head with his fist and jumped on top of him holding a knife to his throat. Meanwhile, the other suspect stole the victim's medication and some cash.

When officers arrived on the scene, Bauer and Smith were gone, but the victim said he knew the men. Nearby witnesses told police they saw the two suspects run across the parking lot at Teague's Superette and were able to identify the getaway car.

Maggie police put out a "be on the lookout" for the car, which was eventually found at the Single Stop in Clyde.

Both were charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, simple possession of a schedule II controlled substance, injury to personal and real property, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods and first degree burglary.

Bauer faces additional charges for assault inflicting serious injury and assault with a deadly weapon.

Smith was jailed under $75,000 bond and Bauer under $85,000 bond. They are scheduled to appear in court April 3.

The Clyde Police Department and the Haywood County Sheriff's Office assisted with this case.

robbery, dangerous weapons, drugs, sound like they do not belong in Maggie Valley. Great job law enforcement, please keep up the great work. Thanks.
