Metal artist Cathey to speak Aug. 24

The Museum of N.C. Handicrafts at historic Shelton House hosts artist/speaker, Grace Cathey, from 7 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 24, in the barn behind the Shelton House, 49 Shelton St, in Waynesville.

Cathey is a noted metal artist, a Waynesville resident and shares her gift shop and metal garden with her husband’s auto shop. Included in her numerous award-winning art pieces, is a White House Christmas tree ornament.

She will speak about her own personal journey into metal art creations. As artist, she will share ideas about how to incorporate metal decorative pieces into outdoor spaces and landscape designs. The Shelton House, built in 1875 by Stephen Jehu and Mahala Conley Shelton, welcomes visitors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday, May to October.
