WAYNESVILLE — Michael “Mike” Gene Jaynes, 67, of Josiah Drive, passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Malcolm and Pearl Howell Jaynes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Jaynes, who died in 2011; sister, Juanita Garland; and brothers, Billy and J.T. Jaynes. He was employed by Harold Bryson Construction as a heavy equipment operator. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing and storytelling about old times.
He is survived by a daughter, Anessa Jaynes, of the Iron Duff community; son, Michael Jaynes Jr. and wife, Tracey, of Waynesville; sisters, Patricia Evans, Genevieve Russell, and Kathleen Green; brothers, Carroll and Jack Jaynes; three grandsons; and two step-grandsons.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Rev. Jimmy Moore officiating.
