Michael 'Mike' Buckner
Michael "Mike" Douglas Buckner, 68, of 175 Buckner Branch Road, passed away April 20, 2017, at the Charles George VA Medical Center. He was the son of the late Billy and Glyndon Wallin Buckner.
Mike served in Vietnam as a U.S. Marine, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and was retired from the N.C. Department of Corrections after 35 years of service, and received the Long Leaf Pine Award.
He is survived by the love of his life, for the last 16 years, Sara Jane Edwards Buckner; son, Wayne Buckner (Sheena), stepdaughter, Melody Buckner; stepson, Randy Riddle (Wanda); sister, Pat Burchfiel (Tom); step-grandchildren, Tyler, Jayden Buckner and Kierra Ripley. Mike was also survived by many friends and extended family.
A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Ivy Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member. Mike's brother-in-law, the Rev. James Messer Sr., and the Revs. Worth Emory and Michael Leophard will conduct the service. The burial will follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at Blue Ridge Funeral Service.
