Mildred Harvey Rathbone Zimmerman

WAYNESVILLE — Mrs. Mildred Harvey Rathbone Zimmerman, 90, of Waynesville, passed away peacefully April 9, 2014.
Mrs. Zimmerman was born in Haywood County to the late Ben and Mary Harvey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Furman C. Rathbone; her second husband, Ralph Zimmerman; son, Kenneth D. Rathbone; daughter-in-law, Glenda Rathbone; brothers, George, Ulouse and Earnest Harvey; sisters, Allie Rathbone, Leona Kirkpatrick, Susie and Alma Messer.
Mrs. Zimmerman owned and operated Ann Davis Rest Home for over 20 years. She was a member of Beth Eden Baptist Church, taught a senior Sunday school class at Calvary Road and Barbersville Baptist churches and participated in Vacation Bible School and sang in the choir. Mrs. Zimmerman volunteered with Mountain Projects as a foster grandmother. She loved her most recent home at Morningstar Assisted Living in Sylva, and enjoyed reading and bird watching.
Survivors include her son, Charles R. Rathbone, and his wife, Nancy, of New Bern, and Canton; daughter, Linda Fish, and her husband, Lloyd Fish Jr., of Franklin; two step-daughters, Barbara Hannah and Betty Figola; six grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home and burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
