Get your photos ready. The Mountaineer is running a military salute picture contest on Facebook in May, with entries accepted  from May 13 to 17  — or until there are 50 entries, whichever comes first. No photos will be accepted before Monday, May 13.

Readers should email a jpeg of one photo, full name of people (or person) pictured and when the photo was taken to: lifestyles@themountaineer.com. One entry per family is allowed. Do not embed the pics in a document; they need to be in jpeg form.

In the email, write one or two sentences about the person portrayed or why you think Facebook fans should vote for your military hero.

The staff will post the entries on The Mountaineer’s Facebook page May 17 to 22.

To vote for an entry, click on the picture, then on “Like” in blue along side the entry. The “Likes” will be tallied. The photos with the highest number of “Likes” as of 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, will be published in The Mountaineer Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day.

Readers may submit vintage military photos or current photos featuring the person serving the country. The only rule is that the person featured in the photo must be wearing a U.S. military uniform. It is OK to submit a family group photo, as long as the service member is in uniform.
