While at the institute, they were also were selected as an alternate couple to the North Carolina Cooperative Leadership Conference in Hiawassee, Georgia, later this year.
The 13th annual Agricultural Leadership Institute, held at the Inn on Biltmore Estate, celebrated young, beginning, small and minority farmers. It was created to equip these farmers to meet the challenges of modern agriculture and encourages the sharing of ideas and networking within the industry. This year’s 27 participants were couples or individuals from farms across Carolina Farm Credit’s territory and were selected for their leadership and achievements.
The Millers were nominated to attend the conference by the staff of the Waynesville service center of Carolina Farm credit. The local staff includes Leisa Hefner, loan assistant; Bruce Newman, home loan specialist; and Donna Silvers, loan officer. The office is supervised by Randy Rogers, regional lending manager.
The interactive three-day seminar included presentations on finance and management issues.
The Millers have a farming operation outside Canton, and are active in the Haywood County Cattlemen's Association.
Directors for Carolina Farm Credit include D. Kaleb Rathbone, of Waynesville.
