More candidates to be reviewed in college president search

A decision on a new Haywood Community College president is being pushed back as the board looks at additional candidates.

In a meeting Monday, the board of trustees voted 6-5 to look at five additional candidates.

Board attorney Pat Smathers said that could be accomplished by either looking at the existing president applications submitted when the position was first advertised or opening the process to more applications.

HCC Board President Bob Morris said the five candidates who visited the community last week are still under consideration, but noted specifics on how to proceed are still being worked out. A presidential search committee made up of community members and a consultant were involved in the initial process of selecting a pool of finalists.
