The Waynesville Council of Garden Clubs held its Annual Dahlia Exhibit at the Waynesville Public Library in late August. The event included a beautiful display of more than 150 single stems and arrangement entries from more than a dozen growers in Haywood County.

The exhibit was attended by hundreds of library patrons and dahlia enthusiasts from the surrounding area. Each attendee voted for their favorite stem and arrangement. At the end of the exhibit, the votes were tallied and the winners were: in first place, “Ryan Fou,” submitted by Jack Leatherwood and in second and third place, tied, "Ryan C," submitted by Leatherwood and "Spartacus," submitted by Alan Arrington. An arrangement by Cindy Leatherwood received the most votes for favorite dahlia arrangement.

The Waynesville Council of Garden Clubs is grateful to the Haywood County Library in Waynesville for hosting this exhibit and to the many dahlia growers who entered both single stems and arrangements.

Those who missed the event can attend the Carolina Dahlia Society “Power of Pink” show Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14 and 15, at the Crowne Plaza in Asheville. The show is free and will be held Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.CarolinasDahliaSociety.org.
