The 10th annual Mountain Mater Festival will be from Friday, Aug. 2 to Saturday, Aug. 3 in downtown Canton at Sorrells Park on Park Street.
The traditional mater eating contest will kick-off at 6 p.m. Saturday evening.
The Canton Moose Lodge booth will be selling their famous tomato pies. Wagon rides and train rides and children’s fun area will entertain the wee ones. A huge car show will be held on Saturday. A variety of craft vendors will be selling their handmade work. Two new attractions this year will be the popular pig races and a giant pinball game.
The music line-up for Friday will include The Josh Fields Band, Vintage Country and, at 7 p.m., the Sombra De Mexico Mariachi band.
The Saturday lineup begins with Little Creek Bluegrass Band, which kicks off the festival at 11 a.m. followed by the Lisa Price Band at 1 p.m. The Green Valley Cloggers, Fines Creek Flat Footers and the Southern Appalachian Cloggers will also be performing. Local musicians Ernest and Elwood will take to the stage at 3 p.m. followed by the Keil Nathan Band at 3:30 p.m. and the Coastal CruZ’rs at 7 p.m.
Dance under the stars until the Mountain ‘Mater Fest comes to a close at 10 p.m.
Tomatoes from the local JW Johnson Packing House will be for sale throughout the weekend along with 10-year anniversary commemorative Mater Fest T-shirts.
