Mountain Writers accepting short stories

Mountain Writers of North Carolina is holding a contest for short stories. They can be set anywhere, populated by any people in any time frame. Help recognize talent by winning the competition and having your work read aloud at the celebration gathering.

First place prize is $100, $50 for second place and $25 for third place. The deadline for receipt of entries is March 15. Late entries will be accepted until March 20 for an additional late fee of $5 per entry.

The author’s name must not appear on any page of the entry proper. Contact information (name, address, phone, email, story title) should be provided on a separate cover sheet.

Entries must be in 12-point Courier or Times New Roman font, double spaced, with one-inch margins, top, bottom, left, and right. Include a header with title/page number on each page. The word maximum is 2,000 words.

Mail one cover sheet and three copies of entry, and fee of $15 ($20 if late), to:

Tom Davis (att’n: MWNC Contest), P.O. Box 66, Webster, N.C., 28788. Paperclip each copy of the entry. No staples. No revisions or resubmissions accepted. Reading begins as material is received.

Judging will be blind. Entries will be screened to ensure compliance with submission requirements, then passed to judges who have demonstrated skills in the publishing and writing business. Judge names will not be announced. Officers of MWNC are not eligible to submit.
