No longer are the Tuscola varsity girls soccer team and Franklin tied for first place in the WNC Athletic Conference.
Impressive goaltending and a pair of unassisted goals gave the Mountaineers a 2-0 victory over the Panthers in Monday night’s WNCAC showdown at C.E. Weatherby Stadium.
Tuscola improved to 9-5-0 overall and took over sole possession of first place with a 7-0-0 record. Franklin fell to 6-3-0 and dropped into second place
The Mountaineers’ two goals were provided by sophomore Ashley Weidlich (sixth minute), junior Andrea Deconnick (60th minute) and senior goalkeeper Abby Coulter stopped eight shots compared to nine by the Franklin goalkeeper.
Tuscola played at Smoky Mountain Tuesday night. At press time, no results were available. Check for the full story in The Mountaineer’s sports section on Friday. The Mountaineers return to the friendly confines of Weatherby Stadium Monday, April 14, to host at the Brevard Blue Devils.
