Mountaineers slip by rival Black Bears, 4-1Tuscola sweeps Pisgah in season series
CANTON — The Tuscola boys soccer team boosted its record to 8-8, 5-5 conference, with a 4-1 win over Pisgah High School Monday night. It was a good win for Tuscola after last week’s tough 3-2 loss to North Henderson.
Senior Brandon Singleton scored first to put Tuscola on top 1-0 early in the first half. Senior Steven Huppe followed with two goals, one off a corner kick, to put the Mountaineers up 3-1 at the half.
Pisgah sophomore Matthew Haney scored Pisgah’s lone goal, with an assist by freshman Tanner Fox.
Tuscola senior Andreas Mendez scored on a penalty kick for the Mountaineers’ final goal of the night.
It was the second win of the season for Tuscola over Pisgah’s young team. “It was a tough game, a little ugly,” said Tuscola Head Coach John Douthit. “We’ve got a good hard game coming up Wednesday against West Henderson at home.”
Douthit named senior Steven Huppe the team’s Most Valuable Player. “He did a good job leading his team and he really stayed in there.”
Wednesday’s match against West Henderson at C.E. Weatherby Stadium starts at 5 p.m. for the junior varsity and 7 p.m. for the varsity.
