Mountaineers take down Pisgah in girls tennis, 7-2

CANTON — The most important contest on any sports schedule is the contest againsta rival.
The Tuscola varsity girls tennis team picked up that one important victory when the Mountaineers romped over host Pisgah, 7-2, in a WNC Athletic Conference match Thursday (Sept. 6) afternoon.
Pisgah’s Madison Robinson defeated Ashley Riley, 10-3, at No. 1 singles, but Tuscola won the remainder of the five singles matches to carry a 5-1 lead going into doubles play.
The Mountaineers’ Foster Kirkpatrick (def. Haylee Brown, 10-0), Nikki West (def. Sam Watkins, 10-1), Alysia Plafcan (def. Mary Cooper, 10-7), Hannah Culbreth (def. Kate Phillips, 10-6) and Erin Peterson (def. Hannah Warren, 10-4) earned wins in singles.
At No. 1 doubles, Tuscola’s Kirkpatrick and Riley defeated Pisgah’s Robinson and Brown, 8-3, while the Mountaineers’ West and Plafcan beat the Black Bears’McKenzie Fox and Cooper, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles.
Pisgah’s Kasey Brown and Warren defeated  Peterson and Kayla Campbell, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles. Allie Brazelton off balance with their 6-0, 6-1 win.
Tuscola entertains East Henderson at 4 p.m. toda, while Pisgah travels to Smoky Mountain.
