Movie Review: Seeking a Friend for the End of the World
Reviewed by Librarian Donna Surles
Set in the near future, two neighbors, Dodge (Steve Carell) and Penny (Keira Knightley), react in different ways to the announcement that a 70-mile-wide asteroid will soon destroy Earth. Dodge wants to return to his first love. Penny is trying to get back to her family in England. Gas prices have gone through the roof, making it very hard to get on planes. Together, along with a stray dog, they embark on a trip to seek transportation for Penny.
There are laugh-out-loud scenes, especially the scene in a restaurant where they stop to eat. This film is poignant, funny and romantic, with great performances by Carell and Knightley. It also has an awesome soundtrack, with one of the Hollies most beautiful songs, "The Air that I Breathe."
