ASHEVILLE — Pitching is everything. Just ask Haywood County-based Carolina 11-and-under Mudcats Baseball Club Manager Heath Sutton.
This past weekend, the Mudcats’ staff gave up just eight runs in four games as the Mudcats won the Beast of the East Super NIT 12-U “AAA” Baseball Tournament.
The Mudcats, which opted to play up an age division, defeated the Carolina Stangs, 8-0, and the WNC Elite, 5-4, on Saturday. Then on Sunday, Sutton’s boys hammered the Brevard Blu Sox, 9-2, in a semifinal, then beat the WNC Angels, 7-2, in the tournament championship.
“My pitching was out of sight this weekend,” said Sutton. “The staff only gave up eight runs in four games.”
