“We try to help out as much as we can for anything that involves children’s activities either through volunteering time, coaching or money,” said (Matt) Mulhern. “Baseball being at the top of the list. We do it because we believe the children today are getting the short end of the stick when it comes to states and counties directing funding or in most cases taking finding away from activities that children need to have available.
“We saw this opportunity with the American Legion as a great way to keep baseball going on the area for kids that are skilled and wish to take their games to a higher level. This is a build it and they will come philosophy, so we need more on board to insure this is successful.”
Post 47 Baseball Athletic Director Larry Harbin there are more like the Mulherns and Webbco that will enthusiastically jump in to assure the success of the Haywood Post 47 Dragoons.
“The Mulherns are a perfect example of folks who invest, whether it’s their time or money, in kids,” said Harbin. “They were so excited about American Legion baseball returning after a 61-year absence. Their support not only assures today’s young men the opportunity to play for the first American Legion baseball team since 1952, they are assuring the future for boys to experience playing for the Haywood Post 47 Dragoons.”
