The Biltmore North American Trail Ride Conference Region Five summer competitive horseback trail ride invites all interested trail riders to register for this long distance one or two-day event June 6-8.  Juniors (ages 10-18) are particularly welcome.

The NATRC French Broad Classic at Biltmore is a sanctioned regional ride under the umbrella of the NATRC Region Five. Team Waynesville, a group of local competitive trail riders, are sponsoring this annual ride.  Team Waynesville includes Sherry Garnes, ride manager; Charmaine DeRosa, ride secretary; Teresa Anthony, awards coordinator; Mary Britt, team advisor; Susan Kingshill, trail master; Julie Nathan, advertising coordinator; and Ditte Phillips, volunteer coordinator.

The French Broad Classic includes a one or two-day trail ride on the well-maintained trails of the Biltmore Estate, an opportunity to sharpen trail-riding skills and to work through natural obstacles, and the fun of camping with family and friends. Safety for the horse and rider team is of the utmost importance. Veterinarians, skilled judges and volunteers work together to maximize the fun and safety of the competition.

The first five juniors to register are free. Mentors will be assigned to first time riders. Prizes are awarded to juniors for placement as well as for ride completion.  Awards are also given in the adult categories for novice, competitive pleasure and open.

Call Sherry Garnes at 400-7402, Charmaine DeRosa at 506-2427 or visit for information.
