New artists join Mainstreet Artists’ Co-Op

Waynesville — Three new memebers joined the Mainstreet Artists’ Co-Op in downtown Waynesville. The new members are Crystal Allen, a potter from Canton, Hank Shuler, a potter and sculptor of animals from Franklin, and Janice Swanger, a pet artist from Waynesville.

Allen studied pottery in the professional crafts program at Haywood Community College. She specializes in wheel thrown as well as hand-built pottery. She studied and worked in the design field and it shows in her creative production. She said that her work has been influenced by the forms and textures found in nature. Allen also draws artistic inspiration from her forays into calligraphy and watercolor painting. She will be at the gallery during Waynesville’s Art After Dark, from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 1.
