New Belgium taps Ben & Jerry’s-inspired brew

This winter, dip into the fridge — not just the freezer — to find a dozen ways to satisfy a sweet tooth. New Belgium’s newest collaboration with Ben & Jerry’s brings together two different types of pint-makers for one common goal — to fill a glass with Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ale.
New Belgium will be tapping its Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Dough beer Friday, Oct. 21 in the Asheville Liquid Center. There will also be little ice cream beer float tasters out on the deck from 4 - 6 p.m. Cost is a $1 cash donation to the non-profit, POW (Protect our Winters).
To craft this confection, New Belgium dove into its favorite chocolate chip cookie recipes for inspiration, and then whipped hefty doses of chocolate, brown sugar and vanilla into a dough-hued blonde ale base.
The result is a full-bodied beer, at 6 percent ABV, that seduces with a balance of vanilla and chocolate, and finishes with just the right amount of sweetness. The brew’s aroma is all things decadent — vanilla, caramel, and chocolate (baker's chocolate, hot chocolate powder), essentially straight up cookie dough. It also has the aroma of slight caramel malt and malted milk balls, very slight cherry and almond in the background.
